Should I replace my gutters?
If your gutters are overflowing the first thing to check is that they are not plugged. Often the issue can be resolved by just clearing debris from your gutters. If the gutters have been cleaned and are still overflowing or leaking then you may need to get them replaced. Gutters typically last about 20 to 25 years so if they are around that age or you have leaking corners, those are indicators that the gutter system is due for replacement.
What materials do you recommend for gutters in Vancouver’s climate?
For Vancouver’s wet coastal climate, we primarily recommend continuous/seamless aluminum gutters. This material offers an excellent balance of durability, performance, value and corrosion resistance. Steel is a stronger metal but can rust over time. We avoid vinyl gutters as they tend to become brittle and crack during winter temperature fluctuations and summer UV exposure. Copper and zinc systems are also available for homeowners seeking premium options, though at higher price points.
What maintenance do gutters require?
Maintenance intervals depend on your home and how many trees and the type of trees you have surrounding it. Overflowing gutters are an obvious indicator that they need to be cleaned. For evergreen trees that shed year round, more regular cleaning may be required. For deciduous trees that shed once a year cleaning may only be necessary after the fall. If you have many trees, installing a leaf screen will help to reduce maintenance.
Are there any additional costs to the gutter installation?
Out estimate shows the work to be done and includes materials, labour and disposal of the old gutters. Occasionally we do find rotten fascia boards when the old gutters are removed. If that happens, we will notify you and give you an opportunity to get an estimate for any rot repairs before we proceed. We endeavour to provide transparent pricing for all our projects.
What kinds of gutter repair services does Vancouver Gutters provide?
We can replace damaged gutters for example a section of gutter that was struck by a vehicle or tree branch. We don’t do work on existing gutters systems for example re-securing or sealing old gutters as we cannot warranty the work.
Can I reseal my leaking corners?
If the gutters are less than five years old a corner can be resealed if done correctly. On older gutters it’s difficult to get the caulking to bond properly and they usually start leaking again within a year.
How long will new gutters last?
Properly installed aluminum gutters typically last 20 to25 years in Vancouver’s climate when maintained correctly.
Are leaf guards worth installing?
No leaf screen is 100% maintenance free. However a quality leaf screen designed for Vancouver weather and debris (including needles) can significantly reduce maintenance, usually by about 70%. You can request leaf screen to be priced as a separate option and you can weigh up the cost of the screen versus the reduction in maintenance and see if it makes sense for your home.
What does your warranty cover?
The warranty covers all materials and workmanship. It does not cover physical damage and cleaning.
Do you have insurance?
We have full WCB coverage and also full liability insurance. Insurance documents are available upon request.
How much do gutters cost?
There are a few variables such as the size of the house and access however for most houses it is under $5,000 to replace the gutters and downpipes.
